Evolving the Pesky Market
Over the last 3 months, we’ve been watching every order to understand how and why you’re shopping on the Pesky market – all so that we can continue to make every experience better and better.
As a result, this has led us to look at every element of the experience – from the practical elements of how you want your fish prepared, through to your expectations of our packaging.
It’s also offered us the chance to take major, tangible steps towards our sustainability goals – ensuring that every one of your orders moves us closer to a positively sustainable fishing industry.
What we’ve learned:
You love your fish and you’re buying more of it than ever before! – You’re now buying an average of 2.1kg of fish in every delivery! That’s up 90% since the end of lockdown. You’re also more often buying from the Pesky market to stock up rather than just for one off showstopper meals – with an average of 4 whole fish per box – knowing the product is so fresh that it’ll last in the fridge for days and freeze down brilliantly.
You want us bring you even closer to your fisherman or producer – It feels unthinkable now to receive a fish without knowing who caught it.
You expect 100% of our packaging to be recyclable – You care about the sustainability of the entire chain and expect nothing less than for every material to be recyclable in your box.
You want us to help create the most amazing seasonal dishes – Over 3000 views of our August seasonal recipes shows that we need to do even more to make cooking our boats’ amazing fish even more easy and accessible.
What we’re changing:
Updated packaging materials – The new Pesky box is not only 100% recyclable, itself, but so is every material inside of it. We’ve also made them so strong that so that they arrive perfectly at your door. In fact, they are so strong they can take the weight of a 300kg Atlantic Tuna without breaking.
New traceability labelling – We’ve updated our labels so that every pack of fish now has the boat front and centre, meaning you can share exactly how you got on with your fish – whether that’s Darren’s Brill, Dean’s Bass or Matt’s Mussels.
Lower fish prices, without our fishermen losing a single penny – With customers buying more fish per box, we want to make it as easy and accessible as possible for you to put more in your box. Therefore, with the number of orders as well as the new, ever expanding size of them, we’ve been able to bring fish prices down while ensuring that this has no impact on the prices we are able to pay fishermen.
Updated delivery fee structure – So that we can keep fish prices low, while also battling increased packaging and delivery prices from our brilliant suppliers – we’ve been able to put our free delivery spend at £50, with a delivery fee of £7.50 for orders under £50. There’s also NO charge for weekend deliveries, for when you need a last minute stash of Iain’s smoked salmon.
A new recipe every 3 days – After the success of Jack’s August series, we’re now working with him and a handful of others to publish new recipes every 72 hours. This won’t be regurgitated dishes from some 2006 recipe book. Instead we’ll be investing in bringing together the seasons of meat, fruit and veg into dishes that are both original and easy.
